



President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has named three new regular members to the Teacher Education Council (TEC), strengthening ongoing initiatives to uplift teacher education in the Philippines. The new Council members, drawn from the ranks of educators and leaders, are expected to share vital practical knowledge and offer grounded perspectives, ultimately shaping policies and standards for teacher development.
Here are the regular members appointed for a three-year term, pursuant to Republic Act 11713:
Dr. Rosemarievic V. Diaz brings a wealth of experience in mathematics education and academic leadership.
- Dr. Diaz is a National Board Member of the Philippine Council of Mathematics Teacher Educators (MATHTED), Inc., with which she served multiple terms as President (2008-2009; 2011-2014, 2015-2019). As a mathematics specialist, her contributions extend to learning materials development for Key Stage 2 and 3 Math and Senior High School STEM and curriculum guides development for Key Stage 3 in DepEd. Her consultancy work and research focus on mathematics, mathematics education, curriculum development, and teacher education and training.
- She currently holds the rank of Professor IV at the Philippine Normal University (PNU). Her management and leadership capabilities are evident in the positions she assumed at the university: Vice President for Research, Planning and Quality Assurance (2018-2020), Vice President for Finance and Administration (2017-2018), Vice President for University Relations and Advancement (2016-2017), Dean of the College of Flexible Learning and ePNU (2015-2016), Director of the Institute of Knowledge Management (2013-2015), and Dean of the College of Science (2011-2013).
- Dr. Diaz earned her PhD in Science Education major in Math from De La Salle University (DLSU), graduating with Distinction as a DOST-SEI Scholar. She also undertook Professional Studies in Teacher Education at Queensland University of Technology, Australia.
Fr. Onofre G. Inocencio Jr., SDB is a distinguished leader in technical vocational education and training (TVET) in the private sector.
- Fr. Inocencio is the President of the Unified TVET of the Philippines, Inc. (UniTVET) through which he works on enhancing the quality of technical education in the country. He contributes to TVET policy formulation and systems advancement as a TESDA Board Member and EDCOM II Standing Committee Member. He is also Board Member of the Coordinating Council of Private Education Associations (COCOPEA) and Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP).
- He held various academic leadership roles, including Dean of Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Mandaluyong (2019-2022) and Don Bosco College Canlubang (2018-2020), principal roles at various Don Bosco Technical Institutes, and is now the Vice President for Academic Affairs at DBTC Mandaluyong and Chancellor of Don Bosco Education Centers (2019-present). Fr. Inocencio also leads organizations for teacher education, presiding over the Foundation for the Upgrading of the Standard of Education (FUSE), which focuses on training teachers in English, Science, and Mathematics, and President of the Philippine Association of Lesson and Learning Studies (PALS), dedicated to professional teacher development through the Lesson Study approach.
- Fr. Inocencio was a Hubert Humphrey Fellow at Boston University, Harvard University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds a Doctorate in Education (EdD) from DLSU and multiple master’s degrees from DLSU and University of the Philippines. He is also a registered Professional Guidance Counselor and Professional Teacher.
Dr. Maricris B. Acido-Muega is an advocate and specialist in educational history and philosophy, and values education.
- Dr. Acido-Muega is a member of the Fulbright Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF) and a Professor VIII at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
- Her national projects involve curriculum assessment of GMRC/Values Education for EDCOM II, curriculum development for DepEd GMRC/Values Education Grades 1-10, and editor for NCCA’s Learning Guide for the School of Living Traditions of the ATI in Guimaras. She has also recently co-written book chapters with international publishers: Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines Through the Lens of CRT: An Imperative for Inclusive Organic Education (in Contextualizing Critical Race Theory on Inclusive Education from A Scholar-Practitioner Perspective: Does It Really Matter, 2024, Emerald Books, USA) and The Role of Philosophy in Democratic Education (in Cultivating Reasonableness, 2023, Springer).
- Dr. Acido-Muega holds a PhD in Educational History & Philosophy from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She has also completed specialized training in Philosophy for Children and Community of Inquiry Facilitation from Montclair State University, USA.
With their expertise and experience, the new regular members are poised to contribute significantly to the TEC’s efforts in improving the quality and relevance of teacher education in the country.
